Going out on the road in your recreational vehicle is a freeing experience that lets you focus on the sights and sounds of nature, rather than the humdrum daily grind. But to make your trip goes well, you do need to perform a few chores while you’re in your rig. One of the tasks you’ll need to address is doing laundry.

Sure, you could pack your whole wardrobe, but you’ll probably find that it takes up too much space. We’ve created this quick list of your best options when it comes to doing laundry in an RV. If you want more advice or to look at campers for sale, visit Sumner RV. We have dealerships in Sumner and Bremerton, Washington, and also serve those in Seattle.

Off-Site Laundromats

If the campsite you’ve reserved has access to laundry facilities, then great! Problem solved. However, not all campsites have this feature, so if you do want to use a laundromat, you’ll probably have to haul your clothes off-site. Or you can stop at a laundromat in a town as you’re driving through to get a load done while you eat lunch. Another option is using a laundromat at a truck stop.

Either way, you’re going to need your own laundry detergent (powder or sealed packs will be lighter to carry and less likely to spill than a jug of liquid detergent), plenty of quarters, and dryer sheets, along with something to carry your clothes in.

Portable Washing Machines

If you feel like investing in a machine of your own to have on your rig, you can purchase a small washer that will get the job done without you having to leave your camper. These are generally good for very small loads, like underwear and socks, and not as ideal for a full haul of hiking clothes and beach towels. This option may not suit your needs if you have a lot of fabric to clean.

Washing By Hand

This is probably the cheapest option you have available to you! A clean bucket, some water and some suds, along with a little elbow grease, will make quick work of washing the essentials. Get the whole family to help and have your laundry washed and hung up on a clothesline in no time! You could even put on a favorite TV show or movie to make the task go by faster.

Installing Washer/Dryer Units

Another option that’s a little spendier is to install washer/dryer units in your RV itself. Some rigs already have an alcove and hook-ups for this option so you can buy your own stackable set, while other models come with washer/dryer units already. If you’re on the road a lot or live in your camper full-time, you may wish to upgrade to a model that’s capable of holding one of these units or that comes with these units installed! It’ll make your life so much easier, particularly if you have a big family.

Doing laundry in your recreational vehicle doesn’t have to be a daunting task! You may even find that using a mixture of the above methods will be your best option, since you can do quick washings by hand while saving the bigger stuff for a laundromat. Try to always work with smaller loads, as these will be faster to do, will utilize less water and be more manageable overall.

You can keep your family’s clothes clean easily provided you strategize and do laundry frequently, rather than waiting for it to build up. Still don’t have the rig?
